This is an extremely rare high-grade drilling from the master gun maker Ludwig Borovnik of Ferlach Austria. Ludwig Borovnik are one of the last remaining gun makers in Ferlach, making guns of the highest quality and commanding extreme prices. This gun is 12G & 12G / 222 Remington (Not 222 Rimmed). This drilling represents an ‘entry level’ gun by their standards, although it would be classed as high grade by most other manufacturers. It is completely hand made and finished. This particular example was completed in 1976 as indicated by the 176.76 stamp on the frame, indicating that it was the 176th gun to be proofed in the Ferlach Proof House in 1976. Walnut stock is of high quality and figure, being almost pristine and un-marked. It features fine checkering, pan-cake cheek piece with shadow line and Buffalo Horn grip cap and butt plate. Cast is fairly neutral and would suit either left or right-handed shooters. Receiver is hand engraved with game scenes on the sides, scroll on the underside and various border adornments. All screws remain un-molested and facing north/south, as they did on leaving the factory. Gun has tight lock up and exhibits little to no wear. Lever is to the right of centre. Bores are a mirror finish, with the 12-gauge barrels measuring LF and LF. Barrel length is 615mm or 24.25” and weight is 3.5kg or 7.7 pounds. Action is very petite for a 12 gauge and appears to be a 16-gauge frame. It is lively and points well. Rifle barrel is of Bohler Spezial G*55 steel and the shotgun barrels of Bohler Blitz Stahl. Breech face is un-marked and features bushed firing pins. Typical of this era, gun features a Greener style safety and a tang mounted thumb selector switch. When rifle is selected, the fine rear rifle sight pops up on the rib to allow for accurate aiming. Gun is double trigger/extractor. Right trigger also fires the rifle barrel (when selected). Right trigger can be pushed forward to ‘set’, for a much lighter release weight of the rifle barrel. It is adjustable for release weight. The images and description do not do this firearm justice.
