A rare find with this new and unfired classic that comes straight out of my collection and it is mint condition.
It has the four position adjustable FRONT sight for shooting out to 200m, can also be used at shorter ranges, and provides a much better sight picture than the traditional red ramp.
These were hand made in an era when they were more focused on quality rather than how fast and how cheap they can make them. The dash 2, 3 and 4 are considered to be the best models of the 686 ever made. They were all assembled using USA made billet steel parts rather than the cheapo Mexican made metal injection moulded parts used today.
This is a pre-lock model and uses the firing pin striker on the hammer which allows for a better trigger without the floating transfer bar used in the later production.
You will be paying around $1350 for a new basic red ramp front sight model from your gun shop that is of much lesser quality than this classic dash 3 variant.
Any knowledgeable gunsmith who has had lots of S&W experience will tell you that the earlier ones are MUCH better quality than what is sold now. So for an extra $225 you can own this beauty; one of these in this condition rarely ever come up for sale - so move on it quickly before someone else does. $1575
