A very scarce and hard to find revolver. These were only made for one year in 1988. There were just on 5,000 of these made and 95% of them were shipped into the European market, with Germany receiving the majority of them.

These were all made with the unfluted cylinder, timber grips and replaceable front sight blade instead of the usual red ramp (note the retaining pin in the photo). Only a very small handful of these transitioned to the Hogue rubber grip which was right at the very end of this short production run.

This model doesn’t have the frame lock and is referred to as “pre-lock” and has the firing pin on the hammer where it should be; there for does not have the transfer bar used on all models from dash 5 through to what is made today - which allows for a better quality trigger.

The S&W 586 and 686 are almost exclusively the first choice in revolvers for competition shooters, and are recommended by knowledgeable gunsmiths over other brands.

The dash 3 and dash 4 models are considered to be the best models (586 & 686) ever produced. These were hand finished, they don’t make them like this any more.

This revolver came out of a collection and has seen very little use. For close to around what you will pay for a new plain Jane run of the mill 686, you can own this glamour; which is highly collectible and is a better gun than what you can buy new off the shelf. $1595
