The Yugoslavian M48 Mauser was a post-war version of the Belgian Model 1924 Mauser that incorporated modifications based upon the German Mauser Karabiner 98k. Although similar in general appearance to the German rifle, many of the parts of these two rifles are not interchangeable. The M48 uses an intermediate-length receiver. Other differences between the two models include: the M48 does not have a bolt disassembly disc in the butt, the bolt handle is a bent curve rather than the sharp angle of the K98, the woodwork is not recessed beneath the bolt handle, and the rear handguard extends past the rear sight.
